"Speed Racer" starts the summer blockbuster season off on a sour note as bad acting and a heavy-handed approach ruin what could have been a unique interpretation of a childhood favorite.

Based on the Japanese cartoon, the movie tells the story of Speed Racer (played by Emile Hirsch) who after a spectacular win on the race track catches the eye of the head of Royalton Industries (Roger Allam).

Not everyone can afford to take off to Las Vegas on the weekend whenever the urge strikes to play some cards or hear the chimes of the slot machine.

Luckily for Palomar students there are a myriad of casinos right here in the San Diego area.

They all offer the standard fare like slots and buffets but there is also plenty that differentiates each casino from the next so that no matter were you choose to go, you can be sure you will have a fun and unique experience.

Lately, many voters have expressed concern that, should presidential candidate Barack Obama get elected, he would be shot. To be blunt, that is idiotic.

Claims have been made that he should drop out because the nation is still too prejudiced and intolerant of the alleged "lesser" races to allow a black man to rule the country - and that like fellow visionary Martin Luther King, Jr.

Senior softball player Nicole Camarena has never hoisted a championship trophy above her head. Nor has she been given a championship ring to commemorate her team's success.

Eve ate the apple. William Tell shot an apple from his son's head with a single shot. At CSUSB we award the Golden Apple to teachers of distinction.

I took a bite into the Golden Apple rules and regulations and my teeth fell out.

The guidelines seem fair, except for one thing that caught my eye.

It's doubtful anyone owns a ring that can tell you more about him or her than the one Jennifer Johnson made in her jewelry class.
